Quick start
Pack a cold meal, set the hours until lunch, and Junior heats it automatically. Here is the whole routine.
- Charge before the first use. Plug the supplied charger into Junior first, then into the wall. A full charge takes 5 to 6 hours. The battery icon is blue while charging and turns green when complete; on some units it blinks rapidly instead of turning green, which also means full (see Charging).
- Insert a container of cold food and latch it down. Food straight from the fridge is ideal. Press the lid on until all four latches click, then lock the container into the base. Junior cannot heat unless the container is in place.
- Power on. Hours Until Meal opens in edit mode right away and its green clock blinks. Use
Up and
Down to set how many hours until lunchtime. Example: packing at 6:30 for lunch at noon, set 5.5.
- Press
OK to save. The clock turns solid green: the countdown is running. Heating starts automatically about 2 hours before the time you set, so a timer of 2 hours or less begins heating right away.
- Choose a heat level if you like. H1 is the lowest and H5 the hottest (about 170°F to 200°F). Junior remembers your settings, so most families set this once.
- Put it in the bag and go. Junior heats safely inside the insulated bag that came with it, or any lunch bag or cooler. At lunchtime, open the lid and eat straight from the container in the base.
Need to eat sooner than 2 hours from now? Use Manual Heating. Most meals take 1 to 2 hours to heat through, so the automatic timer gives the best result whenever there is time for it.
↑ On this pageCharging
Charge overnight before each school day. A full charge takes 5 to 6 hours and heats one meal.
- Plug the charger into Junior first, then into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn Junior off and unplug from the wall.
The battery icon lights blue while charging. The first time Junior is plugged in it can take up to 60 seconds for the light to come on.
When the battery is full the icon turns green. On some units it blinks rapidly
instead; that also means full (see below).
A rapidly blinking charge light also means full
Here's what's happening: when your Junior reaches full charge, you may notice the LED rapidly blinking instead of showing a solid green light. While this differs from what's shown in our documentation, this is actually your device's battery protection system doing its job.
What this means for you:
- Your battery is fully charged and ready to use
- Your device is 100% safe and will perform as expected
- You can continue using your LunchEAZE Junior with complete confidence
- If you see this behavior regularly, that's normal. It just means you're consistently charging to full capacity
Unplug it and use it as normal. If after a full overnight charge Junior will not turn on, shows the red battery icon, or lunch comes out cold, that is a different problem: run the built-in self-test and contact us.
The red battery icon
Solid red: the battery is below 80% and will not heat for the full 2 hours. Charge before the next meal.
Flashing red: the battery is below 20% and will only heat for a short while. Charge now.
Charging tips
- Charge between 0°C and 45°C (32°F to 113°F). Charging is slower when the battery is very cold or when Junior is still warm from heating; let it come to room temperature first.
- Use only the supplied 9V 1.33A Junior charger. A charger from another model or device may not light up, may not charge it, and can create a risk of fire.
- A light hum or buzz while charging can be normal. If the charger or Junior gets very hot to the touch, sparks, or smells like burning, unplug it right away and contact us.
- Junior is not a charger for other things: keep the charging port clear of crumbs and never push anything else into it.
Daily use
The number you set is how many hours until lunchtime, not a delay before heating starts. Junior counts down to that time and begins heating on its own about 2 hours before it, then keeps the meal hot through lunch and shuts off automatically.
Example. You pack at 6:30 and lunch is at noon: set 5.5. The screen shows 5.5 and counts down. Heating begins around 10:00, and by noon the meal is hot all the way through. The next morning, Junior still remembers 5.5 and the heat level, so you only confirm and go.
Packing the meal
- Pack food cold, straight from the fridge. Junior is a reheater: it warms pre-cooked food and does not cook raw food.
- Fill the container, press the lid down evenly until all four latches click, and lock the container into the base. The container must be latched in for Junior to heat.
- Keep it upright. The container is spill-resistant when sealed, but it is not fully leakproof, so soups and thin sauces should travel upright.
- Use the insulated bag (or any lunch bag) to keep the food cool until heating begins. Junior does not refrigerate: avoid packing highly perishable foods for long periods.
At lunchtime
- Open the lid and eat with the container left in the base. The container and food are hot; the base stays only warm on the outside and keeps the food hot through the meal.
- The bottom heats first, so stir before eating.
- Heating stops automatically when the timer ends, and immediately if the container is lifted out.
After school
- Remove the container and wash it. Wipe the base if needed (see Cleaning and care).
- Turn Junior off and put it on the charger overnight.
Heat levels and hotter lunches
| Level | Good for |
|---|---|
| H1 to H2 | Foods that heat quickly or that a younger child prefers warm rather than hot: pasta in sauce, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes. |
| H3 | A good everyday setting for mixed meals. |
| H4 to H5 | Dense or chilled-solid foods and anything you want as hot as possible: rice dishes, casseroles, meats, leftovers packed straight from the fridge. |
If lunch is warm but not hot enough
- Set the heat level to H5.
- Keep Junior in its insulated bag while it heats. The bag is designed to hold the heat in.
- Leave the container in the base while eating; Junior keeps heating through the meal.
- Add a small splash of water to dry foods such as rice, pasta or sliced meats. Junior works a little like a slow cooker: the moisture in the food makes steam inside the sealed container, and that is what carries the heat through. This helps most with irregular pieces like chicken wings or drumsticks.
- Soups and thick stews hold a lot of heat and are the hardest to get very hot. Pack them a little less full and give them the full 2 hours.
- Start from refrigerated rather than frozen food. If you do pack frozen food, a sprinkle of water in the bottom helps, and letting it thaw slightly in the fridge overnight helps more.
- Stir before eating; the bottom is usually hotter than the top.
- Junior heats one meal per full charge, so charge it fully the night before.
If a fully charged Junior gives no heat at all, run the built-in self-test and contact us.
If the food is too hot for your child
- Set the timer to finish about 30 minutes before the actual lunchtime. Heating stops when the timer ends, so the food has time to cool a little before the lid comes off.
- Use a lower heat level, H1 to H3, for foods that heat quickly.
- Remind your child to stir, and to let the first bites cool.
Child-safety features
Junior is built so that a child only ever has to open the lid and eat. An adult sets it up; the sensors and the lock take care of the rest.
- Warm outside, hot inside. The food gets hot; the outside of the base only gets slightly warm, so a child can carry it and open it.
- No heating without the container, and no heating with the lid open and the container out. Spilled hot food can burn, so teach your child to eat from the container in the base.
- Independently certified. Junior is CPSIA child-safety certified for ages 6 and up and tested to UL fire and electrical standards (see Certifications).
Supervision still matters: Junior is an appliance, not a toy. We recommend an adult sets it up and the child simply eats from it at mealtime.
Container and lid

- Material. Food-grade 304 stainless steel (it contains nickel and chromium, as all 304 stainless does), with no coating. The lid is BPA-free polypropylene with a silicone sealing ring. No BPA, BPS, BPF or PFAS anywhere near the food.
- Sealing. Press the lid down evenly until all four latches click. The silicone seal is snug when new and relaxes with use. Watch the 1-minute sealing video.
- Spill-resistant, not leakproof. Sealed properly it survives a backpack, but keep soups and liquids upright.
- Dishwasher and freezer safe. The container and the lid can go in the dishwasher; you can prep meals ahead and freeze them in the container. Never microwave the container (it is steel) and never put the base in water.
- Hot after heating. The container and its contents are hot at lunchtime. Leave it in the base while eating.
- Replacements. Extra containers and lids are in the accessories shop, so one can be in the dishwasher while the other is at school. If a latch, hinge or the lid is cracked, contact us.
The insulated bag

- Junior is designed to heat inside a bag. The included insulated bag holds the heat in and gives the hottest result; a favorite lunch bag, a backpack or a cooler all work too. The outside of the base only gets slightly warm.
- Before heating starts, the bag keeps the cold food cool. Add an ice pack beside Junior on hot days if you like; keep it off the display and the charging port.
- The bag is wipe-clean. Do not machine wash it with Junior inside.
Cleaning and care
- Container and lid: dishwasher safe, or wash by hand. Dry the silicone seal before storing. No microwave.
- Base: unplug from the charger and let it cool. Wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap, then dry. Never immerse the base, the cord or the plug in water or any liquid, and never put the base in the dishwasher. Clean spills promptly.
- Hotplate and the inside of the base: wipe crumbs and drips out once cool. Do not scrape the plate with metal.
- Charging port: keep it clear of crumbs. If the charger will not seat fully, check the port for debris before trying again.
- Display and buttons: a soft, slightly damp cloth. No solvents.
- Do not use Junior if the display is cracked, if the cord or plug is damaged, or after it has been dropped hard and behaves differently. Contact us instead.
Battery, storage and travel
- Built-in lithium-ion battery, 7.4V nominal (8.4V max), 5,000 mAh, 37 Wh. One full charge heats one meal and lasts about 24 hours on standby.
- Charge it like a phone. Overnight charging every school night is the normal routine. Turn Junior off when the meal is done to save the battery.
- Not using it for a while? Lithium batteries can be damaged by sitting at 0% for a long time. If Junior will sit unused for more than a few days (holidays, summer), charge it to at least half first and top it up every month or two. Store it dry, at room temperature, away from heat.
- Temperatures. Charge between 0 and 45°C (32 to 113°F); use between −20 and 60°C (−4 to 140°F). Never leave it in a hot car.
- Flying. At 37 Wh the battery is well under the 100 Wh limit most airlines apply to devices in carry-on bags. Carry it on rather than checking it, and check your airline's rules before you travel.
- Replacement. The battery is not user-replaceable. If it no longer holds a charge, contact us: battery faults are covered by the warranty.
- Disposal. Do not throw any part of Junior in the trash. Recycle it responsibly with an electronics recycler.
The charger
- Output 9V DC, 1.33A. Input 100 to 240V, 50/60 Hz, with a US 2-prong plug.
- Abroad, the wide input range means a simple plug adapter is all you need: no voltage converter.
- Always connect the charger to Junior first, then to the wall. Do not let the cord hang over a counter edge or touch hot surfaces. Unplug when not in use and before cleaning.
- Lost or damaged? A replacement Junior charger is in the accessories shop. Do not substitute a charger from another model or a universal adapter, even one with the same plug.

Built-in self-test
Junior can check itself. Our support team will usually ask for this first, so running it before you write to us saves a day.
- Turn Junior on and plug in the charger. Use the original Junior charger.
- Take the container out. Make sure nothing is inserted in the base.
- Hold
Power,
Up and
OK all together. The screen shows u.4 or something similar.
- Wait about one minute. Junior runs its checks and you will see various lights and numbers.
- If the test passes, the screen shows PASS. If it fails, you will see a flashing red light and a number on the screen. Write that number down.
Then contact us with the result, your order number, and what you noticed. A PASS with a symptom that persists is useful information too.
Troubleshooting
The charging light blinks rapidly instead of turning green
The battery is full. On some units the protection circuit ends the charge with a rapid blink rather than a solid green light; the unit is safe and will perform as expected. See Charging.
The charging light isn't turning on
Give it a minute first: the first time Junior is plugged in it can take up to 60 seconds to start charging. Use only the Junior charger. Check that the outlet is live, that the plug is pushed fully in, and that the port is clear of crumbs. Try turning Junior on while the charger is plugged in. Still no light: run the self-test and contact us; our team will arrange a replacement if the charger or battery needs one.
It's been charging for hours and the light is still blue
A full charge takes 5 to 6 hours from empty. The light stays blue the whole time and changes when the battery is full: solid green, or on some units a rapid blink. Charging is slower when the battery is very cold or when Junior is still warm from heating. If it has been plugged in overnight and still will not power on or heat, contact us.
It started heating right away
The number you set is the hours until lunch, and heating begins about 2 hours before that. So a timer of 2 hours or less starts heating immediately. Set the actual hours until lunchtime (for example 5.5), not the delay you want.
Lunch was warm but not hot enough
H5, the insulated bag, a splash of water in dry foods, container left in the base, and a full charge. See Heat levels and hotter lunches. If a fully charged Junior gives no heat at all, run the self-test and contact us.
Lunch is too hot for my child
Set the timer to end 30 minutes before the real lunchtime and use H1 to H3. See Heat levels.
The lid is hard to close, pops open, or leaks
Press the lid down evenly until all four latches click; the seal relaxes with use. The container is spill-resistant, not leakproof: keep liquids upright. A cracked latch, hinge or lid: contact us for a replacement part. Sealing video.
It makes a noise while charging
A light hum or buzz while charging can be normal. If the charger or Junior gets very hot to the touch, sparks, or smells like burning, unplug it right away and contact us.
It won't turn on
Try turning it on while the charger is plugged in. If the battery was left empty for a long time it may need a few minutes on the charger before it responds. If there is still nothing after an hour on the charger, run the self-test and contact us.
The buttons don't respond
Check for the lock icon on the display: press Up and Down together to unlock. If the display is dark, see "It won't turn on".
The red battery icon shows right after a full charge
That is not expected. Run the self-test and contact us with the result; battery faults are covered by the warranty.
Anything else: the troubleshooting page covers every model, and our US-based team is happy to help.
